During an impressive award ceremony on 17 June 2019 in Neustadt an der Weinstraße (Germany), for the sixth year in a row, the Meininger Verlag presented the winners of the coveted Meininger’s International Craft Beer Award.

Numerous BESTMALZ customers (see the picture gallery) were delighted to be among the recipients of medals in bronze, silver, gold and platinum – especially the brewery Doppelleu Boxer from Winterthur in Switzerland. Not only did they receive two platinum, three gold and three silver medals for their participating beers, but now also bear the title “International Brewery of the Year.”

1229 beers from 31 countries competed for an award at the 6th Meininger’s International Craft Beer Award. 90 judges from 13 countries, including brewers and beer sommeliers as well as sensory experts from the scientific and academic community, worked their way through a total of 74 beer styles. The most popular, and hence most competitive, beer styles included barrel-aged and non-alcoholic beers. The number of submissions increased by 44 percent compared to the previous year for barrel-aged beers and by 24 percent for non-alcoholic beers. International beers made up 33 percent (2018: 23 percent) of all submissions. Brewers from Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Austria and Belgium were particularly strong. Submissions also came from Taiwan, Argentina, China, Australia and Colombia.

“The award winners reflect the entire spectrum of beer varieties. A true showcase of artisanal and creative brewing art,” said beer expert and Meininger’s Craft Beer Award board member Benjamin Brouër during the award ceremony.
