Reaction to the postponement of drinktec 2021 fair to 2022

At the end of February, Messe München announced that the drinktec fair will be postponed from October 2021 to September 2022. Both the award ceremony and the main prize of this year’s BestBrewChallenge were largely linked to the drinktec fair. This will now be adapted as follows:

The award ceremony will take place as an online event. The precise date will be announced shortly.

The main prize remains a trip with the following options: either a visit to Heidelberg including a meeting with the BestBrewChallenge team members in 2021 or a visit to the drinktec 2022 trade fair in Munich (each including travel and accomodation for two).

That’s what BestBrewChallenge 2021 is about: brew a light wheat beer. Since it’s a light beer, the alcohol content should not exceed 3.5 %. Your grain bill must contain at least 20% BEST Heidelberg Wheat Malt and your beer creation should be brewed according to the German Purity Law. That’s it!

Ever since the challenge began in 2015, beer enthusiasts from around the world brew simultaneously at a set day and time. This year it will be Thursday, March 25th at 2 pm (CET). All participants are invited to share photos and videos via social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) – with the aim of virtually bringing the brewing community closer together. Share your posts with the hashtags #BestBrew and #BestBrewChallenge and they will be displayed on a social wall at www.bestbrewchallenge.com.

Anyone confident to brew a wheat beer is invited to participate. Every participant will get a BestBrewChallenge T-shirt. Registration is already open and will be closed a day before the challenge on March 24th. To get a beer evaluation, a sample must be sent in by May 10th. All beers submitted will be evaluated by a professional jury and all participants will receive individual feedback.
